The Sigma Phi Epsilon Recruitment Process
Sigma Phi Epsilon is always looking for the best and the brightest men to join our fraternity. For this reason, our recruitment process is different than any other fraternity.
We recruit not only during the traditional fall and spring "rush weeks" with every other fraternity, but also year round. This means that outside of formal recruitment, we have new member events throughout the year. This allows both parties (the Fraternity and yourself) to get to know each other to a greater extent before a bid is offered. By doing so, we are able to fully uphold our high standards for membership and get to know our potential new members on a more personal level. These standards include (but are not limited to): leadership, academic prowess, athleticism, and gentlemanly conduct. Although no man is perfect, all brothers (current and prospective) constantly seek to improve themselves in these areas.
Upon receiving and accepting a bid, new members are automatically granted the full rights and privileges of brotherhood. From there, you will begin the four step SigEp Challenge program.
SigEp's Challenge Program
The Sigma Challenge is a quarter development program where you learn our values of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Additionally, you learn our chapters history, about local Greek Life, and form unbreakable bonds great friendship with the rest of the fraternity.
The Phi Challenge is a 2-4 quarter development program and is a reflective stage. You figure out what your personal values are, what you want to do, and broaden your horizons. Activities you might do as a member of the Phi challenge include attending a leadership conference, working out with brothers, and coordinating a community service project.
The Epsilon Challenge is a 1-2 year development program that focuses on leadership. In the Epsilon Challenge, brothers focus on giving back to the fraternity. This can include mentoring a younger brother, leading campus wide events, and making a lasting impact on the Potsdam community.
The Brother Mentor Challenge is a development program that extends throughout the rest of your college career and past graduation. This program focuses on the transition from college to the "real world" with the help of active alumni and volunteers.
