Bikeathon Fundraising Event for St. Lawrence Literacy Center

Josh Wilkes, Undergraduate Secretary

The Undergraduate Brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon will be holding an event called “Bike-A-Thon” consisting of brothers taking shifts riding a stationary bike in Cheel Arena for 24 hours. This year the chapter will be fundraising to re-open the St. Lawrence County Literacy Center. Our goal is to positively impact as many lives in the community as possible. For further details please see the below advertisement we have put together.Your generous support in this endeavor would be greatly appreciated.

Sigma Phi Epsilon of Clarkson University is hosting a Bike-a-thon at Cheel Arena on Friday 10/28, during the parents’ weekend hockey game. Our purpose for this event is to raise awareness and money for Potsdam’s Literacy Center of Northern New York. This organization is made up of volunteers who dedicate their time to help the people of St. Lawrence County who struggle to read and write on an adult level. Unfortunately, this past August the Literacy Center shut down due to a lack of funding. Our goal is to help raise enough money for the volunteers to resume operation and to eventually volunteer there ourselves. We also plan to dedicate manpower and volunteer hours once we get the Center up and running. One in five adults in St. Lawrence County struggles with illiteracy, which makes it difficult for most people to work non-minimum wage jobs.

We ask that you stop by our booth and show your support, we will be there for 24 hours starting at 5:00pm Friday 10/28. For just $5 you can enter our raffle to win a FitBit or a Scratch off basket. Want to help but you can’t make it to the event? Go online and make a donation at our GoFundMe. Every little bit can help (Please donate using description “Sigma Phi Epsilon”). Going through life without being able to read or write is not easy. A small donation goes a long way. With your help, we can reopen the Literacy Center and get these people the help they need.
