2016 Carlson's Recap

Lucas Carter, SigEp NYX Undergraduate President

Over a weekend in early February, six of the Sigma Phi Epsilon undergraduate Executive Board members trekked down to Stamford, Connecticut for the Carlson Leadership Academy. We made the trip with chapter advisor Kate Mikel, and as you can imagine there was not a dull moment. Each undergrad attended a tract specific to their role on the executive board.

Throughout the 2 days we were able to network with other SigEps and gain fresh perspective on our fraternity and its aspirations. We especially connected with the SEC of University of Connecticut and were able to pick their brains about further developing our Balanced Man Scholarship.

At the conclusion of the event, we met with Kate and AVC board members Matt Fox & Ken Rushing to discuss applying what we had learned. Each undergrad came up with a few SMART goals and action items which would help sustain and expand the excellence of our chapter. We came away with ideas about better utilizing our Balanced Man program, looking into becoming recognized as a residential learning community, and better managing our campus brand. Between learning more about SigEp best practices and late night McDonald's runs, it is safe to say the weekend was a success.
